"Why are ye waving yer arms around like that? Ye should know that I can get no remedy against this comsumtion of the purse; borrowing only lingers and lingers it out, but the disease is incurable, therefore I be not giving up any assets I may keep, and will do me best to do that whch benefits me most, but when be choosing those to trust, theres not much choice among rotton apples." Barbossa had to gasp for air after finishing, he had not stopped for breath during that rant.

Jack, seeing that Barbossa would not move, gave up 'waving his arms around' and stared in slight surprise at Barbossa as he made this confusing speech. Jack, finally giving up, said "Ok.... Well seing as I'm the best 'rotten apple' around, I suppose I MUST compromise a share in the Pearl; we can... *sigh* I suppose... share captaincy..." he mumbled the last few words then said "Well! Best not linger! Was there a Shakespeare line in there somewhere Barb? I remember seeing that in one of the books in yer cabin... not that I was searching your cabin..." he put his arm around Barbossa and they strode out of the cabin and on to deck.

Barbossa gave Jack a look "When did you learn to read? I'd have thought Shakspeare to complex for the likes of First Mate Jack Sparrow"
Barbossa was annoyed that Jack had seen through his rotten apples quote, it was his favourite Shakespeare line he was sulking inside.

Jack stopped in his tracks and pulled his arm away from Barbossa. He turned slowly to stare at him "What do you mean, 'First Mate'? I was generous enough to allow you JOINT CAPTAINCY. Don't you dare thhink you can undermine ME matey. And I can assure you I know how to read. At least I dont have an apple under my pillow that I kiss each night!"

Barbossa simply stared at Jack open mouthed, he was about to swear VERY loudly, but instead he decided to try and outwit him "Though I am not naturally honest, I am so sometimes by chance and be tonight, the complaints I have of ye I do not all believe; I do not, for I know ye lack not folly to commit them, and have ability enough to make such knaveries yours, but I think ye do not quit have the wit to imagine said insults and crimes that ye could be capable of, your not as full of wit as you think Jack Sparrow"

Jack stared at Barbossa open mouthed as he said this. When he had finished he simply stared. After a while he just said "What?" he turned to go. Then he turned back again and said "Actually my 'friend', I can assure you I have the ability but maybe becausei do not wish to show them does not mean i dont possess said qualities which therefore makes me far more skillful in the art of words than you do just because you have learnt a whole load of Shakespeare bollocks off by heart. I rest my case your honour." he said this all extremely fast but the last one loudly and clearly. He had been advancing slowly upon Barbossa so that now he was face to face with him and he could even smell the apples on his breath. He smiled triumphantly in his face

Barbossa laughed in Jack's face, he had not expected a comeback, not even one as childish as that, he thought it was funny that Jack had taken a simple sentence and made it sound so idiotic, he took a step towards Jack to say " Ye words do not fool me Sparrow, ye may think that ye know more about this world than I, I truly hope that I never know how your head works, but do not think that ye can outwit me, I been to school, I know more than ye coud ever imagine Jaaaack, and your ramblings sound idiotic to me ears, Ye are but a knave, a rascal, an eater of broken meats, a base, proud, shallow, beggarly, three-suited, hundred-pound, filthy rogue; in way of good service and arrr nothing but the composition of a beggar, coward, pandar who wears no honesty, like rats bite, knowing nought like dogs, and if ye want Shakespeare, I know the perfect verse for ye, describes ye perfectly 'In his brain, which it is as dry as the remainder biscuit afte a voyage, he hath strange places cramm'd with observation, the which he vents in mangled forms' that rum be messing with your head boy, ye been hallucinating, ye be loosing yer touch" Barbossa smiled before beggining to walk of cockily.

Jack listened to this speech and the hatred and anger was building up inside him and his lip began to curl, but as he heard the last line, it was as though there was a plug in himself and all the fight went out of him - he simply stood there as Barbossa walked away triumphantly, and stared out at the open ocean where Barbossa had been standing - disbelief, horror and a terrible sadness washed over him, which he had never felt before. Jack walked over slowly to the rails and leant against them staring out at the night sky and at the stars for a long time and it was with a face which was completely and utterly blank as he walked stiffly, not swaggeringly, back to his cabin, all his jauntiness, all his wit had left him, snatched away by Barbossa's words which had cut dim deep - real deep. He went into his cabin and stayed there all night - not saying a word and not daring to even touch or be near the rum. He just sat, staring at the wall...

Barbossa was almost shocked that Jack hadn't even attempted to retort to the insults that he had thrown at him, he had half expected Jack to come running after him and attempt to string words together to sound clever. As he walked away he realised that he had gone too far as he looked at the crew, their faces in shock. He hadn't dared to go to the Captains cabain afterwards, he may have taken an insult too far, but he wasn't completley ruthless (*he can't be-for one simple reason!*). The next morning he strode out onto the deck, looing at the rising sun as the ship moved ever-so slowly towards the horizon, he closed his eyes taking in the sunlight of a brand new day.

That same morning, Jack had been sitting in his cabin in the same position, cold as a statue all night. He hadnt drunk even a drop of rum for a whole 12 hours and he was beginning to feel... sober. O.O Jack stood up suddenly and looked around the cabin gravely then walked up to the door. He stopped at it and took in a deep breath. He pushed open the door into the bright sunlight and strode out of the door in half of his usual swagger, though with a slightly dejected look on his face and he didnt even shout at the crew who were lazing around drinking all of HIS rum - he just wlaked past them all. He felt like a walk around on deck to get some fresh air so he could think - his brain felt so messed up! Just then he spotted Barbossa. HE was standing by the banisters of HIS ship. He stopped and stared, then stuck up his nose and sauntered by as though he wasnt there.

Barbossa saw Jack walking towards him, he opened his mouth to speak, but Jack carried on walking past him, Barbossa watched him as he went, "Oh real mature Sparrow" Barbossa turned to walk away from Jack.

Jack saw Barbossa attempt to speak to him and looked back as a smile crept over his face. It felt like the breath of life - he suddenly felt very happy, strangely. He turned on the spot, extremely drunkenly and swaggered as peacocklike as possible up to Barbossa. "Very mature I'd say" He stopped, his mischeivous grin back in place and the light of Jackness back in his eyes. "So, captain Barbossa, lets sort this ship out, savvy?" He turned to the crew and began shouting orders at them "AND GIVE BACK ME RUM YOU SCURVY STRAWBERRIES!" "strawberries???" he thought in confusion, as he grabbed the abandoned rum bottles from the deck and handed one to Barb "To captaincy!" he said as he unscrewed the bottle

Barbossa looked at Jack with some confusion, he did not understand what Jack was doing, but did not want to offend him again, so he simply said "Aye to captaincy" taking the rum, he added "what be of this agreement then?"

Jack didnt answer immediately for he had drained the bottle down in one and he took he bottle away and wiped his mouth with his sleeve then staggered slightly as he answered "Well... *hic* it might be that I am implying that we could be joint captains, savvy?" Jack staggered even closer and said in Barb's face "and, if yer lucky mate, I MIGHT let you have have me cabin... for a while" Jack was getting a bit carried away by the rum and partly because his spirits were soaring even higher than usual because the rum was amplifying it. Jack narrowed his eyes and fell back slightly, dropping his bottle. He gasped and fell to his knees and said in a high pitched voice "But... Why is the rum gone???"

Barbossa rolled his eyes at Jack's last sentence, he did like the idea of having the cabin, " how can I know that I can trust ye Jaaaack?" Barbossa said moving away from Jack's drunken breath.
