*Night had come quick enough and as the Merchant who currently 'owned' Jack went to sleep in his home, Jack found it the perfect oportunity to escape. He had already chewed through a good amount of the belt so he finished that off quickly before wrapping his small paws around the locks. He used his small fingers to get in the locks and pick them, having done this countless times before. It took time but after a few bleeding cuts, Jack opened the door to the cage and jumped out to go find a way back onto the ship where his Captain was... *

Gibbs fell backwards and clasped his chest in agony. He couldn't believ what had just happened to him, Barbossa was taking this a tad too seriously, it was only a monkey after all. But all this was blown from his mind after Jack had uttered those words"He's the Captain". You could have cut throught the silence that had come over the crew. Gibbs was beginning to fell weak, the rum hadn't helped his sorry state. Now he was beginning to halucinate (sp?), because as he looked up he saw Jack seized by two of his own crew. But he soon realised this was reality when he saw the other crew mates looking to him, and after Barbossa utttered those words "Lock Jack in the brigg". He couldn't believe it, but he knew what he must do. He began to pull himself up onto his feet, when Cotton stepped forward to help him. He took a few steps toward Barbossa, before looking over to Jack who had a rare look of helplessness in his eyes. Gibbs then turned his attention back to Barbossa. "I'm sorry Sir, but i'm afraid I can't do that." He was desperately trying to keep his voice steady through the pain. "This has noth'n to do with Jack, or anyone else for that matter. This was all my own doin, so theres no need to be tak'n your anger out on anyone but me." His balance was beginnig to falter as the pain in his chest burnt through him like fire, but he pervailed. "I will not lock Jack up, not now, not ever, especially to a lesser Captain whos only friend and companion is a blasted monkey!" Gibbs suddenly felt weak and light headed. He now looked to the crew "Would you sail under the command of a monkey, or will you stand by Jack?"......

Barbossa saw Gibbs stand up and face him. He merely looked down at the First Mate, which he was soon NOT to become. When he said the last words his face contorted. Jack (the monkey) had been his one companion throughout his life - Gibbs didn't understand what he was talking about, so he didn't kill him. Instead he grabbed him by the scruff and dragged him himself to the brigg, with Jack. He turned to face the crew who were looking terrified "Well? What are ye waitin for? If any coward here dare challenge me let him speak!" Half the crew looked dejected, half the crew looked slightly mutinous, but at these words, they obeyed - everyone knew what a formidable opponent Barbossa was with a sword.... They followed their new captain to the brigg and locked both Gibbs and Jack separately in 2 cells.
Jack felt touched by what Gibbs had done, but he had seen the wound Barbossa had inflicted on Gibbs and knew he couldn't lead a mutiny like that. When they were chucked mercilessly into the brigg, Jack tried to muster his usual gold-toothed grin at Barbossa who just gave him a withering look and slammed the door shut. Jack sighed and lay down on the floor of the damp prison and muttered to the ceiling "That's the third time he's done that..." and he stared blankly up at the dripping ceiling, feeling strangely empty. He longed for the rum stacked in piles down in his Rum Store and his longing grew for an ice cold bottle of rum...

Gibbs sat down on the floor & propped himself up against the bars, still clutching his chest. He had just realised what he had just said to Barbossa & couldn't quite believe it. All that rum he had consummed earlier, along with the seering pain had lead him to utter what he had always thought, but was never brave enough to say to before. Gibbs had always been Jacks' first mate, & he would never turn against him, especially after he had been brutely attacked like that. He knew Jack would never have done something like that. He glanced over to Jack in the opposite cell & gave a weak chuckle. "How do I always manage to get meself into so much trouble around ye Jack?"

Jack stopped staring at the ceiling and craned his neck up so he could see Gibbs and smiled weakly "Maybe it's me luck mate. At least I've got ONE loyal crew member!" then he said as he lay back down again, "I never knew the old flea bag meant so much to old Barb - he must have meant something to him that evil monkey.... Anyway, how's the wound mate?" Jack peered sideways at gibbs' wound - it was still bleeding slowly down his shirt, staining it slowly dark red. Jack was surprised - it hadn't looked like such a deep cut - maybe Barbossa had hit a blood vessel...
Meanwhile, up on deck, Barbossa was still fuming, the blood gushing through his veins with the shock, anger and hurt he had felt when he heard what Gibbs had done to his beloved pet. He stormed up and down the deck like a hungry lion, and growling like one too. He moved up the stairs towards the wheel. A maniacal grin spread over his face as an idea struck him. Suddenly he called down to the crew, who were working on deck, feeling dreadfully guilty at their betrayal of their captain, and he said "Gentlemen! We be sailing for treasure tonight!" and the crew looked up at him, looking slightly happier and a weak cheer rose up- they hadn't been looting in a long time, and they certainly missed it. Barbossa still had a smirk on his face as he steered the ship towards the shallow water around the area where the islands were.....

*It took much longer then he though it would to find the port where he remembered the Black Pearl being, only to find that the ship had already left without him. It made him feel more alone then ever, sitting there in the moonlight, his un-dead self in plain sight of the people walking by, getting very scared of him. But in the distance of the shores he saw the Black Pearl venturing forth, no doubt his Captain had heard about his horrible treatment by now. Jack jumped in the water and swam, as quick as his little legs could go. He would have to bite Gibbs good and hard for this!*

Gibbs looked back over at Jack "The wound? aaah, nothin' to it, barely a kitten scratch really..." he gave another weak chuckle, but really he was slightly worried about it. On one hand, he knew he'd been injured far worse than this.. but on the other, he knew he wasn't 25 anymore.... He decided not to focus on the pain & to try and keep himself alert & busy. He climbed up onto his feet & walked ovre towards the bars. "So...." after shaking the bars... "How do ye suppose we get our sorry selves outa here?"

Jack pushed himself up so he was sitting and looked at Gibbs through the bars, a look of slight confusion on his face. "Outta here? Where are we to go once we're out? My cowardly crew will just throw us back in here mate; Barbossa'll make sure of that..." he smiled sadly and took a swig of rum from a bottle he had hidden inside his coat, then offered it to Gibbs "Don't drink the lot mate, it's all we have"
Meanwhile on deck, Barbossa had steered the ship towards a tiny island. He smirked as he ordered the crew to get ready the rowing boat and then Pintel & Ragetti to bring Gibbs and Jack. They scuttled off quickly below deck to the prison and opened the door then shoved Jack and Gibbs out and cuffed them (with rope). "Oi, what's with the cuffs mates?" Jack grumbled to the pair - they ignored him and shoved them up on deck. Barbossa laughed as they approached "Jack. Jaaaack. Did ye notice? That be the same lil island we dropped you off on our last lil trip. Maybe ye'll be able to conjure up another miraculous escape - I doubt it. Off ye go!" he drew his sword and moved the pair on to the plank saying to Gibbs "Doubting keeping yer loyalties yet Gibbs? Too late now - yer stuck with this scurvy whelp" he indicated Jack with his sword then shouted "Off with ye!" Jack looked back at the dreaded island and scowled. Again. Agaian after all these years he had put up with Barbossa shoving his weight around, trying to be captain, and he'd done it again. But Jack had had enough. He walked foward towards Brabossa's sword, dangerously close, and said in a low voice "So, you've finally done it eh? Finally got the Pearl back the way you always wanted, but with a lil hitch - you've got a crew there who are - were, faithful to me. One day they'll mutiny, and it'll be YOU walking this plank mate, just keep that in mind..." he turned and jumped abruptly into the water in a beautiful dive. He swam like an arrow towards land and clambered up on the beach and waited for Gibbs, scowling as his ship sailed away into the horizon....

Gibbs looked down at the salty water & his face screwed up. he was edging towards the end of the plank, still looking down at the sea. all he could think about was salty water & his wound...."this is goin' to sting..." but before he had time to prepare himself he was knocked off by Barbossa. When his head surfaced he let out an almighty yell "Blast ye scurvvy riddled sea dog!!!! I was goin' in me own time!" then he bagan to slowly swim to the island, cursing the whole way through the pain... When he arrived on the island, he walked over towards Jack, still cursing. "That man has his hat on too tight, Its cuttin' off all reason to his brain!" then he looked at Jack watching his ship sail off. "Sorry bought your ship Cap'n....." then he looked around this infamous spit of land...."Errrr......Sea turtles?"

Jack watched Gibbs' tiny blob coming towards him through the waves and he waited on the sandy beach by the old ashes from when he and Liz were here. When Gibbs came ashore he said "It's alright mate. We've been through worse..." he looked over the horizon at the ship but it was hardly visible now. He scowled and said "Aye, sea turtles!" he got up and waded into the warm caribbean sea, and stood. He sighed, thinking he had to do this alll bloody night, then called back to Gibbs "Come on then ya old sea dog"

Gibbs took a while to catch his breath, he wasn't as fit as he once was, & couldn't remember the last time he went for a casual swim, let alone one that seemed miles. But he had noticed his wound had become so painful due to the salty water, that it was actually numb. When the felling of light-headedness & nausia had left him, he plodded over beside Jack, slapped him on the back, then turned to ask "Ye havn' been shavin' yer back now have ye Jack? We'll need enough hair to rope together enough sea turtles for the both of us." then began to laugh like a drunken fool again.

Jack looked around at Gibbs in mild indignation at his drunkness. "For your information, Mr Gibbs, I have not been shaving me back. We shall have quite enough rope." he turned back to the ocean and waited. He slouched in a bored manner, the warm water up to his waist with the tiny silver fish darting around them like stars in teh sea.
Meanwhile on board the Pearl, Barbossa was smirking in a power-crazed evil sort of way as he steered the ship away from Jack for the last time he hoped intensely. He'd had enough of Jack Sparrow taking his ship. Of course it was his. What a load of tripe. The crew did not dare to look at Barbossa in one of his crazy moods, he'd probably skin them alive, literally if they tried to talk to him. They just got on with their jobs. Much later on, they had returned to Tortuga and were back at port. Barbossa stepped out on to the pier, looking around, his beautifully plumed hat attracting many admiring looks to his fancy attire, which was exactly the point. He wanted everyone to know by seeing him that he was a wealthy captain of a ship. He put his hand to his mouth and whistled - a whistle he had trained Jack (the monkey) to come to immediately, and waited - waited for Jack.

* Jack, hearing the whistle, jumped into action. He had tried to swim to the ship earlier, with no avail. So now when he heard his Captain's whistle, he was ecstatic! He jumped through the crowd of people in the pirate port, towards the source of the call. Seeing his Captain, he chattered in happiness and jumped up to Barbossa's shoulder, happy to finally be where he was meant to be.*

Barbossa smiled slightly as he saw his monkey dart to him through the crowd. Once upon his shoulder as it should be, Barbossa brought up a hand and ruffled Jack's fur on his head, smiling as he handed his beloved pet a peanut. Now satisfied, Barbossa moved off back towards HIS ship behind him. Do not think that he was not at all happy to have his monkey back - Barbossa was of course over the moon about it! But he didn't generally display his emotions openly to his crew. The crew looked at him slightly surprised, for he had only been a few minutes - they had expected longer obviously. Barbossa stopped and looked around at them all, his heir of authority very clear. He suddenly barked out his commands to get the ship sailing again and the crew scurried around in the usual mad rush to obey. He strode over to his cabin, which had once been Jack's, and opened the door. He wrinkled his nose in disgust as the powerful waft of alcohol over-whelmed him, but he strode in and shut the door before striding over to his desk and slumoing down onto it, kicking up his feet onto the table. He looekd around the room - Jack had changed it a lot since he was captain, and he wasn't best pleased. He missed the elaborate candles and his prized apple bowl which usually sat in teh middle of the table infront of him. However, he was glad to see that Jack had been unable to dispose of Jack (the monkey's) perch hanging from the celing. He snorted as he thought this; it had been his idea to name the monkey Jack... Just a small portion of revenge for Jack Sparrow, to be named after th ecreature he detested. Barbossa looked round at Jack and said "So Jack, I bet that was an adventure to last you a life time" he chuckled and picked an apple out of the bucket of them beside him (a temporary base for his beloved apples before he could find the bowl again...)

*Jack was ecstatic to be back with his captain and the rightful captain of the black pearl (at least in the monkey's eyes). So when they came into the captain's quarters the first thing he did was go to his perch and enjoy the familiar swing of it, as the ship rocked in the waters. He watched as Barbossa walked over to the chair and sit, in his little hands was still the peanut the captain had given him. He started to munch on it like the captain was munching on the apple and when Barbossa spoke to him, Jack started to make a light chattering noise, almost telling the story about that dreadful Jack Sparrow and Gibbs, selling him to a merchant. But all that didn't matter now, he was back with his rightful owner, and for good measure he jumped off the perch and over to Barbossa, sitting near his shoulder on the chair.*
